Episode 13 - That's a Lot of Vs

Welcome to the supplemental resources for Episode 13 all about wartime nutrition!

Nutrition was a hugely important factor in WWII - the success of the war was dependent on the health of the nation - its soldiers, its working population, and its civilian population. All of them worked together to keep things running to win the war.

Enjoy these amazing wartime posters about nutrition!

Here is the Cookbook Feature: The Wartime Cook Book by Alice Bradley

published 1943

I really love this dedication!

Notice how the chapters are organized
by food groups and not meal or food categories!

I also love that this cookbook includes the food wheel
with the 7 food groups

It features a helpful vitamin chart as well.

The taste is not for everyone....

Another interesting recipe with a very strong honey flavor.

I thought the taste was improved by the coconut.

This is a very sweet, soft candy with a nice,
nutty aftertaste.

Everyone needs a classic pumpkin pie recipe!
I wasn't a fan of the whipped egg whites, but this is
easily remedied by just adding the whole eggs into the mixture.

Happy Thanksgiving!
